The official name of Ventura is City of San Buenaventura for the mission located nearby and named for St. Bonaventure. The mission was founded in 1782 with the town growing up around it. The city was incorporated in 1866 and is now home to almost 110,000 people in its 21 square miles of land.

Drilling Water Wells in Ventura, California
Ventura, California is in Ventura County. In December of 2014, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors adopted, and subsequently extended, an ordinance which prohibits the drilling of new water wells in specified areas of certain groundwater basins. This ordinance will remain in effect until Groundwater Sustainability Agencies have submitted groundwater sustainability plans to specified agencies. However, a waiver may be granted if certain circumstances warrant it.
